Dutch Artist M C Escher was born #onthisday in 1898. Escher specialised in using lithographs, woodcuts and wood-engravings and is best known for his representation of buildings or views with unusual perspectives. This printed poster is his depiction of the Tower of Babel. Escher wrote of the image: ‘Some of the builders are white and others black. The work is at a standstill because they are no longer able to understand one another.’
